Boy from Nalico

I met this boy in Nalico village, a miserable IDP site that had wonderful people in it. I should rather say he met me, and enjoyed laughing at me and looking at my camera. I met his parents and they asked me to adopt him, to give him a better life... I was hardly in the position to do so and kindly found a way out of it. But I enjoyed his company, gave him what I could and remember him. I hope to see them again.

Wow. As a parent, I can't even imagine the desperation that would lead parents to ask someone to adopt their child. Thank you for continuing to document the awful situation in Burma.

Thank you Kathy. It was an awkward situation to be in, on one hand I wanted to help with what they asked, but I thought as bad as what they were dealing with was, at least he still had his mother and father. The boy asked me several times to visit his hut, when I did he already has his bag packed to go with me. It took me a while to understand what they wanted and when I did I felt a wave of disbelief and uncomfort. But they were very kind and understood that I was unable to help with this. They communicated that it was ok and they were happy to have me visit. I enjoyed tea with them and when I left I gave the father my shirt and some other things. I didn't know what else to do. They were very kind and dignified and I hope like I said to see them again.

That is truly heart breaking.
As Mother Theresa said if you can't save them all save one.
I can only imagine being in that situation my prayers go out to all these people.

This is a very sad situation.
My prayers go out to the people of Burma and the children especially.
